Floor Care Tips
SOIL PROTECTOR
We recommend applying a soil protector like 3M Scotchgard after each
cleaning to protect the fibers after spills and soiling. At that point
you should have a professional carpet cleaner re-apply the treatment
after professional. Scotchgard will help the soil slide off of the carpet easier
when vacuuming, spots will be easier to remove, and professional cleaning will be more
effective – in turn, making your carpet investment last longer.

Carpet Care: Preventive Maintenance
Easy, proactive steps will keep your carpet looking good over time.
Don't track dirt inside
Placing walk-off mats outside all entrances will help by absorb soil and moisture and
trap excessive dirt, sand, grit, oil, asphalt, or driveway sealer that might otherwise be
tracked into the home. Clean mats on a regular basis (or sooner, when they need it) so
they don't become sources of soil themselves.
Use a quality pad
A good carpet pad not only gives better resilience and comfort underfoot, it can extend
the life of your carpet especially on stairs. Because some carpets carry warranties with
specific density and thickness requirements, be sure and review your warranty before
purchasing your pad. Explore varieties of carpet pad.
Occasionally move heavy furniture
Use chairs or appliances with rollers or casters without a chair pad designed use chairs
or appliances with rollers or casters without a chair pad designed specifically for carpet.
Protect carpet when moving furniture
When moving heavy wheeled furniture (pianos, buffets, etc.), prevent damage by
placing a protective barrier of heavy cardboard or plywood between the wheels and the
carpet.
Clean your area rugs
If you use area rugs on your carpet, be sure to clean them regularly, and make sure
you clean and restore the pile of the carpet underneath as well. Also, be sure to check
area rugs for colorfastness before placing them on carpet because the color in some
rugs may bleed through. After cleaning your carpet, allow it to dry completely before
replacing rugs.
Reduce periods of direct sunlight
Protect your carpet from prolonged periods of direct sunlight with blinds, shades, or
awnings.
Floor Care Myths
Won't chemicals used in cleaning make me sick?
Studies have shown that allergies react more to no carpet. With proper vacuuming,
your carpet works like a giant air filter.
Won't my carpet soil easier after it is cleaned?
Modern methods of cleaning use better detergents that are immediately removed, to
prevent sticky surfaces that dirt clung to in the past. FCC uses detergent in the pre
spray only and flushes the carpet with hot water. This method removes all the
detergent in the carpet which, if left in the carpet, will attract soil make carpet soil faster.
If I Clean my carpet too often will it cause permanent damage?
It’s actually beneficial to have your carpet cleaned with hot water extraction. Removing
sandpaper like grains of dirt will prevent dulling of the carpet fibers. Cleaning your
carpet more often will actually extend the life of the carpet because it removes dirt
which can, over time, weaken the carpet fibers.
Spot removal
Plain tap water will remove many spots. For those spots that will not move easily with
water, you can call a trained, certified professional cleaner. (First Choice Cleaning Co.)
If you have FCC's" Spot Out", apply spot cleaner sparingly to a white terry cloth and
gently massage the spot causing it to transfer into the cloth. Never pour spot cleaner
directly onto the carpet. Any spot that you are unable to remove, and for pet urine or
feces, call your professional cleaner immediately.
